Hello and Welcome to More Than Just a Paycheck!
I'm Becky. I'm a 38 year old American chick camped out permanently in Bangalore, India. I work for a small tech startup called DataGrokr, which is a data analytics shop. I am the HR Manager by title, but my responsibilities include Admin, Finance, Office Management, and everything else non tech related. It's quite the broad and interesting mini empire I run every day!
Full disclosure moment - my husband, Naveen, is the Managing Director. He started off asking for help with paperwork and has helped me grow my role into a plethora of other things. As a result, I have a ton of freedom to engage and help shape the company and culture as and how I'd like. I realize that this is a tremendous opportunity and am striving to do my best to meet the best expectations, both mine and the company's.
While Naveen had the initial vision for the company and it's culture, it has become my mandate to develop and grow it. As you can imagine, I have spent a lot of time writing policies and programs and thinking how I can improve our processes.
DataGrokr's central cultural theme is excellence in technology combined with continual self improvement in both Tech and Professional capacities. One of our recent initiatives that we kicked off was a Pro-Series of chats that will occur every one to two months. We feature Business and Tech leaders and request them to come and give talks to help our employees and Leads to engage in self analysis and growth through the speaker's experiences and knowlege.
Our first speaker was Sumanta Ranjan Das. He is a thought leader and Director of Product Development at Intuit and has had a wide and colorful history in the Tech industry. He also happens to be a good friend of Naveen's and both of them attended IIT Kharagpur together. He happens to be a great speaker and kept his audience enthralled and full of questions; it was a fantastic session for everyone at DataGrokr.
As we chatted after his session, he was quizzing me on some of our HR initiatives as we are a much smaller outfit than Intuit. As I shared with him our vision and some of the initiatives we run to get there, he suggested I write about it. As I am a writer but focus on fiction, this was an intimidating challenge. However, a writer at heart has things to say even when it's difficult.
So here we are. I'd like to share some of my professional life with you, some of our initiatives and challenges, my perspective as a woman, and the passion of the culture that drives me to get up and love my job every day. Not everyone feels that, but I consider myself blessed to be able to.
I welcome connections and comments, so please feel free. I have so much to learn that new perspectives are always refreshing. Reach out! Questions as well are always welcome.
I hope you enjoy the journey with me.
